Yeah, first it was indeed easier than the manual setting up of shared network folders but HomeGroup really needs a major changes to make it simple for every user while still serving same purpose or even better. HomeGroup after all is intended for regular computer users but it seems I realize it still bit too many steps and fiddling around. I think this is a reason why despite this is an old Windows 7 feature, majority of people still don't use this feature. Another factor is Microsoft themselves didn't even market this feature alot or at all.

HomeGroup is still good, it just needs way more simple way to set up yet secure and do similar or even better way of sharing stuff locally. HomeGroup should also need network profiling where it saves HomeGroup profiles on each network setup so a user don't need a manual setup everytime which is annoying for users. Nice article! Will help users leverage the power of home group! Forgot whs can also be added as well.

Windows 10 Mobile should be able to connect to the homegroup as well. It would be really nice to just grab a file from your PC and stick it on your phone via a homegroup without all of the work of One Drive.

Wow, never thought of that Imagine streaming media to your phone right from your PC, accessing files, etc. Right now, my desktop PC has Bluetooth so that's what I use to send a file to my phone but you're right, HomeGroup on the phone would be quite a breeze to share files. Worst of all, you can quite easily access an Android phone by installing a samba server on it and have it appear as a share on a Windows PC.

Could you recommend a samba server app because I haven't had any luck with that. I'm new to home group networking but it seemed easy to set up the group. It allowed me to join both of my computers and set up my folders to share just fine. It is private. All three computers show a private connection with the options as in the previous reply.

I'm afraid now that I have multiple Homegroups, and can't figure out how to delete them. All search results seem to be for Windows 7. It seems that the issue only appears in your Laptop 2.

Have you made any changes or performed any updates on that computer? We suggest that you run the HomeGroup troubleshooter to help us diagnose and correct the problem. Thanks for the response. I tried HomeGroup troubleshooter, which didn't find anything wrong. It suggested Network troubleshooter, which didn't find anything, either. Miraculously, or, rather, thanks to in the Microsoft godsphere, the problem has resolved after both desktop and laptop2 underwent the most recent Windows 10 update.

I may be wrong, but I'll swear that the trouble appeared before either were updated, but am sure it only disappeared after both updates. My wife controls laptop1 for the most part, so I have no clue as to the timing there. Even if the updates resolved the issue, it was a frustrating couple of days trying to fix it myself, when the solution was in Godcrosoft's hands all along.
